Countdown to a new chapter begins

In five days, or rather one hundred and sixteen hours...which is equal to six thousand, nine hundred and sixty minutes, or if you prefer it in seconds...on second thoughts, I think I'll stop - I'm starting to really scare myself.
The new chapter in question being the start of my working life....finally.
Five hard years at medical school have whizzed by, and after the anti-climax that was the graduation (which is really not for the graduands, but for their long suffering family) I find myself on the threshold of the REAL world - ie the one that is outside the bubble that being in university creates.
I'll be working as a junior house officer, or rather as MMC* would call it, a 'foundation year one doctor' at a district general hospital in England.
And this blog will be the diary of my journey.

*Modernising Medical Careers - its the new scheme for training doctors. Doctors who have passed out in the last two years will have other more unprintable names for this scheme. Luckily for me, there's one year worth of guinea pigs who started the system, which has its birthday on the 1st of August.
